Meet Dr. Marie Gurka

Marie Gurka, MD


Dr. Marie Gurka is board certified in radiation oncology and practices at the Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center in Rockville and at the Shady Grove Adventist Radiation Oncology Center in Germantown. Dr. Gurka is trained in all aspects of radiation oncology, and is experienced with the most advanced radiotherapy techniques including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and HDR gynecological brachytherapy.

Prior to joining ARM, she was an Assistant Professor in Radiation Oncology at the University of Louisville James Graham Brown Cancer Center. She has conducted both clinical and basic science research and her work has been recognized the by American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and cited in various lectures, research articles, and textbooks.

Dr. Gurka grew up in Alexandria, VA and graduated from the University of Virginia, receiving a degree in Biochemistry. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University for medical school where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her radiation oncology residency at Georgetown University and was named chief resident in her final year.
